Recap: JRNA Annual Picnic

ree

This year's picnic was the best ever. We had 50 people from all over the neighborhood, including Prairie Point, Hawks Ridge, the JR apartments, etc. A few brand new families came for the first time.

Lynn Wiskowski and Mark Dunbar expertly prepared burgers, hot dogs and brats. Neighbors contributed some unusual and delicious side dishes and desserts: Chinese tea eggs and dumplings, a tart with garden-fresh tomatoes and zucchini, spicy-hot roasted potatoes, a peach crisp with fruit harvested from a famous neighborhood tree, and more!

Cornhole was popular with families, and the younger children created some amazing bubble creations. Some played with a giant checker set and others with a giant Jenga. And of course, more artists decorated pavers.

This year we also brought in the Kona Ice truck to provide free treats. Some of the adults swore there was alcohol in the "adult flavored" ice cones, although the Kona man said there definitely was not. Some of the neighbors even grabbed an extra serving as they left, so they could keep it in the freezer for another day.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the event and to all who volunteered their time to make it a success!
